Casualties of War: Special Toy Soldiers

Soldiers who since return from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan are involved in brawls, beatings, rapes, drunk driving, drug deals, domestic violence, shootings, stabbings, kidnapping and suicides.

Three times as many veterans and active service members are dying soon after returning home than those being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

We hear little about the personal hell soldiers live through after returning home.
This is a tribute to them. By Dorothy.

Its pretty harsh but definitely a strong statement. Wonder if there is a similar version of the innocent victims that die during the wars…

UNICEF Toy Soldiers

A smart campaign for UNICEF to raise awareness about the so many child soldiers in Africa who are forced to fight unwillingly for cause they don't understand. The toy soldiers are actually children, some of wich are playing around in the midst of all that they are going through.

The package went to UNICEF supporter mailing lists and potential sponsors.

IKEA Switches To Verdana, Everybody Goes Insane!

So, apparently, IKEA switched from Futura to Verdana. Why? Here's their official answer from Typophile:

"IKEA abandons 50 years of Futura and Century Schoolbook for… Verdana.
In an interview with swedish design magazine CAP&DESIGN the reason for the change is to be able to use the same font in all countries, including asian countries. Also they want to be able to give the same visual impression both in print and the web."

Following the change, people go crazy about the whole issue. There is a petition to "ask IKEA to get rid of Verdana" , a facebook group was also created, and everybody is complaining about it on Twitter. Even Time magazine wrote an article about it.

Take a chill pill guys. Its not that big a deal! I think there are more important issue to worry about!!!!

So Fadi, hows the situation there in sweden, home of the retailer giant?

Dispatch Work by Jan Vormann

Jan Vormann, known for his dispatch work, hit the streets again, this time filling up holes that remained from WW II in Berlin with Lego bricks. Many people just spontaneously started helping him fill up those holes. Healing war wounds indeed!!!
