Papercraft Audi A7 Replica

A 4-foot long papercraft replica of the 2012 Audi A7 was launched at the 2011 New York Auto Show.
This project was started by Taras Lesko, graphic design artist, who designed this project with 285 sheets of paper. Using photos and A7 blueprints from Germany, he designed 750 model pieces out of card stock, which he then printed, folded and glued together. His equipment was a laser printer, two desktop cutting plotters, glue and an X-ACTO knife. More than 245 hours later, he had created his own bold vision.

Rethink: De-branding Cigarette Packs

A move intended to subvert the alluring brands of tobacco giants and make smoking less attractive, London-based consultancy Build created these satirical yet serious visualisations of how a packet of 20's might look if the branding were to be stripped away. The project is entitled "Rethink".

Interesting alternatives to the "Smoking Kills" warnings are included; giving smokers some serious insights into how much time each pack smoked will rob them of, and making a feature of the terrifyingly long list of ingredients that go into each pack.

I Am 8-Bit

I am 8-Bit Halloween costume by Dan Liuzzi.

"It's made out of: Insulation foam, joint compound, a cardboard box, glue, some gesso spray and acrylic paint. Pretty amateur stuff actually, and a really fun project. Took me about 2-3 weeks to finish. "

Michel Dines In Hell: A Halloween Project

So guys, get this. My friend Michel is one of the craziest people I know and I absolutely love him for it.

His latest insanity is a 65 day halloween costume project/challenge to transform his body from an unfit blob (98.5kgs) to lean and muscular 85kg one, to be able to pull off dressing up as King Leonidas on Halloween. 

You see, he just absolutely adores the movie 300. He always has. He's watched it over 50 times, knows all the lines by heart and lives his life based on all that he could learn from that movie. What pushed him over the edge you say? Well, on his last birthday, which wasn't too long ago, he got a Spartan helmet as a gift and thats when he just went totally berserk!

He decided to BECOME Leonidas (or as close to him as possible) in time for Halloween.

The stuff he goes through is just CRAZY! He put his body through so much strain and pressure but he was determined to do it. He even had to go to the hospital a few times! And so, he started a blog called Michel Dines In Hell '10 where he blogs about his daily adventures, fitness, nutrition among other fun stuff. 

Now, with only a few more days left to go, check out the results; body, beard, tan etc.

The determination, the will power. Its definitley awe-inspiring.

Typographic maps

Axis Maps just released their mapping / art project Typographic Maps. These unique maps accurately depict the streets and highways, parks, neighborhoods, coastlines, and physical features of the city using nothing but type. Only by manually weaving together thousands upon thousands of carefully placed words does the full picture of the city emerge. Every single piece of type was manually placed, a process that took hundreds of hours to complete for each map.

Kinetic Wall: A Vertical Lake Building Facade

International design studio Urban Art Projects puts the soothing effects of water into an unlikely place; the side of Brisbane, Australia’s airport car park.

This project is being developed with artist Ned Kahn. It is called a “Kinetic Wall,” and it will essentially be an eight-story-tall public art installation. Seen from the outside, the installation will look like a vertical body of water, complete with gentle waves and natural movement. From the inside of the building, the movement of the facade will create beautiful patterns in sunlight on the interior surfaces.

The effect is created with 250,000 aluminum panels which are loosely suspended so as to move gently with the wind.

It also helps provide passive cooling and ventilation for the car park, cutting down on energy costs and keeping the building more comfortable all year long. The new parking garage, complete with the unique facade, will be completed in late 2011.

Ribbonesia

Baku Maeda, an artist and illustrator, living in Sapporo, Japan, decided to create 3D shapes from ribbons in a project called Ribbonesia. Inspired by the animals, rendering of these tapes are very impressive.
